It
is time to start preparing for Global Youth Service Week! This is a
week that youth across the whole United States do service projects to
bring awareness to Childhood Hunger. This year the week to celebrate is
April 13- 17. (Yes, this is the week after Spring Break!)
The purpose for this food collection is to help our needy families
at Rocky Branch to have enough food for the summer months. Each week
throughout the summer our selected families will receive a box of pantry
foods and a box of fresh produce from our garden. This year my goal is
to also design a cookbook with recipes for them to follow to prepare
healthy meals using the pantry foods and fresh produce. Last year, we
collected enough pantry foods to cover the whole summer. Thank you so
much for your help in making this event a huge success!!!
Listed below are the items that will be collected each day.
Monday- Rice (this can be an kind of rice bags or rice boxes like Rice a Roni, Rice side packages, etc.)
Tuesday- Pasta and sauces (any kind of pasta, or pasta side packages)
Wednesday- Beans (any variety of dried beans or beans in a can)
Thursday- Cereal and peanut butter
Friday- canned foods (this can include canned tuna, chicken, and vienna sausages
Extra Service Times:
Friday, April 17- 2:30- 5:30 This will be boxing day!!! All pantry items will be boxed up and prepared for summer delivery.
Cooking School students will also be preparing Friday meal delivery.
Saturday, April 18- 2:00- 4:00- Garden Work Day We will be planting our summer crops in our gardens.
Sunday, April 19- 2:00- 4:00- Garden Work Day
This should be a great event for Rocky Branch students to show the
Rocket's Way!!! Contribution is a great way to teach students how to
give back!!! Remember One Child......One Class.....One
School......Making a Difference to Change the World!!!!
